My friend and I came here for Sunday Brunch today. It was our first time here after hearing many good things and seeing great reviews. We were seated right away in a booth. The first thing we appreciated was the beautiful decor and ambiance. Our server was sweet and helpful with choosing what we wanted from the menu. We ordered the Om Tea and the Desi Chai to start. I absolutely loved that my drink came with cookies! I ordered the Chai French Toast from the brunch menu and my friend got the Chaat Dog. We were both pleased and I look forward to returning for dinner to experience the regular menu.
Sherkaan is not your typical Indian restaurant--it's better. They expertly blend classic Indian flavors with familiar, fusion-inspired dishes like poutine and baby back ribs (my personal favorite). Nestled just behind the Apple Store in New Haven, Sherkaan offers a chill, cozy ambiance. It's an intimate space, so I'd suggest making reservations if you plan to go on the weekend. We recently attended one of their special mixology events, held on an early Sunday evening, featuring cocktails crafted with Smoke Lab Vodka, a premium vodka originating from India. The bartender was fantastic, guiding us through three cocktails, including a smooth Pumpkin Espresso martini and a signature Strawberry Spritz. The third was a wonderfully creative twist on an old fashioned with hazelnuts which I thoroughly enjoyed. Alongside the cocktails, the mixology class came with two small plates--a perfect introduction to Sherkaan's approach to Indian flavors if you're new to the cuisine. I started with the noodle salad, a delightful dish of soba noodles tossed in a light vinaigrette. Served cold, it was refreshing and delicious. We also sampled the poutine, which had a hint of spice and a unique flavor profile that felt like a Canadian classic with an Indian twist. My wife tried the Indian-inspired nachos and butter chicken, while I enjoyed a bold and flavorful chili chicken dish. Every plate was inventive yet approachable, making for a memorable culinary experience. Whether you're a fan of Indian food or on the fence, Sherkaan is an excellent choice. If you're familiar with Indian spices, you'll appreciate the inventive twists on traditional dishes. If you're new to Indian cuisine, this is a great place to start. And if you're hesitant about bold Indian flavors, I'd highly recommend the ribs--they're simply fantastic. Sherkaan brings a fresh perspective to a cuisine that doesn't always get the spotlight it deserves. All in all, a wonderful concept, beautifully executed.
This was the best dining experience that we've had since moving to CT. The food was mouthwatering. The cocktails were unique, well balanced, and just right. The ambiance was great. The service was top notch. If you have Nicole as your server, trust every recommendation she makes. She was amazing, listened to our preferences, and truly delivered on all fronts. Plus ... this was the easiest gluten-free dinner I've had in an incredibly long time. Most of the menu is naturally gluten-free, and it's clearly marked. If we could give more than 5 stars, we would. Made for a very happy anniversary dinner. Thank you, Nicole! Second visit (11/8/24): still a 10. Tried all new dishes and everything was fantastic!
Good Naan & Beverage Menu w/ attentive and classy service and vibe. It was my first time checking this place out. I was waiting for the Apple Store and was there for a very short tie, but enjoyed it!
This was the best dinner I've had in my two-weeks-plus in New Haven. It came highly recommended, but everything exceeded my expectations. We had a sampling of a few things including the goat curry (you have to get it. The spices were perfect), lamb kabeb (with piles of shaved red onions on top), aloo dosa (really, really big portion for what you pay), and garlic naan (tender and buttery). This is a really fun place to spend an hour, busy with people and really well organized. The seats were unbelievably comfortable (weird thing to note, but they really were), and our service was excellent. We even got a story about a bridal party our server had gone to. It was all brilliant, honestly. I can't wait to try to happy hour which has, I believe, nachos done with indian spices and meats, along with cocktails, which sounds like the best thing I could do at 4pm in the afternoon with my one wild life.
This place was located in downtown New Haven. The parking situation wasn't that bad actually we were able to find parking in the front that was metered. The restaurant is located within the Yale community. The food and service were both excellent. We had special requests that were taken care of immediately. We were able to enjoy happy hour as well as some of the dinner menu items. My favorite would have to be the wings and the butter chicken nachos. The inside looked great as well. There were numerous paintings on the wall that made it seem like it had that salvation flare!
Ambiance: definitely a beautiful restaurant! The murals on the wall were really captivating and the bicycles on the ceiling were definitely a first for me but seemed part of the story of the restaurant. Service: the service was great and the food came out quickly. The staff were really friendly and gave great and very honest recommendations. Food: the food!!! Amazing I missed taking pictures of the food because it was amazing the dosa, butter chicken, the roti all were amazing but one of the best dishes was absolutely the ribs. Would recommend everything mentioned here and would love to go back again and try more!
Sherkaan has ruined Indian for me - in the BEST way possible! I've been coming here for a few years now and have recommended it to countless people. I continue to try other Indian restaurants and they simply pale in comparison. Maybe it's their depth of flavor, the street food aspect, or the facets of Indo-fusion cuisine - but I refuse to go anywhere else at this point. The team is usually very accommodating and warm - although a recent lunch visit left a bit to be desired (we felt rushed even though the restaurant was not full at all!). Food is always cooked to perfection and served hot and fresh! Top items that my husband and I continue to opt for, tried and true: Butter Chicken, Indo-Chinese Ribs with Fried Okra, Chili Chicken, Samosas, Garlic Naan. Time and time again, they never fail! We've tried almost everything else on the menu but these are the go-tos! Don't sleep on their bar either - the drink menu is inventive, incorporating south Asian flavors, herbs and spices in a way that makes me want to try them all. From traditional Mango Lassi, to Rose Lemonade, to crafted cocktails, you can't go wrong. The innovative menu, easy to love brand, and delicious eats keep us coming back. I'll keep finding an excuse to be here for any meal time!
Yummy elevated Indian street food! My partner and I came here on a Friday night (made reservations) for our Valentine's day dinner. We definitely recommend making a reservation for dinner time on the weekends since it can get busy. The service was fantastic! Our servers were wonderful and so kind. We were able to make it for happy hour so we decided to get a passion fruit lemonade and poutine. The poutine was good but really small and the drink was great. If you LOVE tart, you will definitely like, but if you don't I wouldn't get it. For food, we got the two most popular dishes: butter chicken and samosa chaat. They were both DELICIOUS! Super flavorful and filled with spices. The garlic naan was honestly probably one of the best naans I've had. The prices were great for the portions. I would definitely come back.
Seriously good Indian food. Lives up to all the hype. You must dine here if you're in the area (Yale students are so lucky, they don't even know!). Service was wonderful and the decor was beautiful. We ordered far too much food, but since we were visiting, we wanted to make sure we tried all of their star dishes, and then some. - Samosa chaat: the best dish - Naan: amazing - Hakka noodles: just alright, suggest skipping this dish - Butter chicken: to die for - Dum Briyani: I think the spices (sheer volume of it) was overwhelming. This is usually my favorite Indian dish to order, but I'd stick to the butter chicken next time - Chai: stellar - Mango kulfi: HEAVEN sent, must order item I'm so bummed to not live close. This was such a great find!
